Schools of its kind...

Imagine a school where students decide what they want to learn and from which teacher and also have a say about how the institution should be run. Believe it or not, such institutions exist, and they are called Free Schools or Schools of Self Determination or simply Democratic Schools (DS).

Recently, the 13th international democratic education conference deliberated on how to further enrich such schools and expand the concept in the world. Head of the department of psychology at SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, H L Kaila was the sole mental health expert to represent the country at the just-concluded conference held in Humboldt, Germany.
