being ready or waste of time

Today we had a Firedrill at 2pm. I had been feeling tired all through the day. I know the reason is lack of physical mobility to this rusting body. When the firdrill begin, all the folks in the buildign were evacuated and we went down. I met the people around me (i was not the only comedian to go down with the laptop). We went down and once the building was evacuated we were aloof until the marshals told us the excercise is complete.

What amazes me is its way of working ? are we being ready for such fires ? or is it sheer waste of human time. As a program manager, who is talking on budget , if there are 1000 resources for 10 minutes = 10000 minutes which is like 167 hours 10,020 $ of money for just a firedrill.

I know you would say we would compensate that 10 minutes for the safety. But are we paranoids? when the real fire comes i hope we dont move in such a slow steady pace otherwise before we see the ground we would have been exhumed. Anyway, alls well that ends well. So the firedrill got completed so came back to office to ensure that i blogged this.
