ICICI has different scale for companies like Infosys, Wipro and another MNC

The difference is due to the volume of money rotated by those IT companies and the staff.

Imagine paying a salary of average 25000 for 50K employees, and almost all of them have their salaries in ICICI.

The net amount = 25000 * 50000 = some mind-boggling number

Imagine a high paying MNC company assuming 50K per employee and for 1000 employees. This amount is relatively smaller than the 1st one.

Go to google and find something called as "Money Multiplier effect". The rate of a 10 Rs/- note is not exactly 10 Rs/- but something around 10x where x is the multiplier effect.

Even if the 50000 employees of company x hold their salaries back in their salary account for a day, ICICI would make a 6.25% profit.... the good question is how?

every bank for its day to day needs borrows money from RBI, this is called the REPO rate and RBI borrows from the banks for its operaional needs which are called Reverse - Repo rates.

when ICICI will hold the amount of 125 * 10^8 money, the entire money generates an interst rate of 5.75 - 6.25% of interest and the amount is profit. To ensure that hte profit is retained it provides waivers in its money operations to the companies hwihc have larger transactions. Hence the partiality, which is perfectly normal in business :)

Hyderabad Real Estate Market

The Hyd real estate market has gone into a wonderful amazing heights. The land price that was 8000 / 9000 per sq.yard (1 sq.yard= 9 sq. meteres) is sold today at 30000 per. sqyd.

kondapur - 30000 Rs/sqyd
Madhapur - 25000 Rs.sqyd
Gachibowli - 15000 Rs/sqyd
Srinagar Colony - 25000 Rs/sqyd

all these prices were nearly 10000 rs/- lesser in the last one year to six months.

Why is the sudden raise in the prices ? who is to blame.

the sudden raise can be attributed to two reasons
a) the sudden raise in the immigration population from other states to Hyderabad
b) Teh infrastructure improvement near these places. - which i will not discuss in this article

Sudden increase in immigration has resulted in need of more houses for the other state folks.

The rent and the price of the land goes hand-in-hand.

As the demand for the house increase, the houses become more dearer and the folks are willing to pay a premium to stay in those houses. The normal formula for rent calculation is 4% - 6% of the property value is considered as a good - best rent for the land lords.

so lets say a property worth 20 lakhs is given out for rent at 4% the rent is 8K, while for the same property there are 8 people who are fighting out, and the 2nd one is ready to pay 3% more than the 1st person and 3rd person is ready to pay 3% more than the 2nd person.

So by cumulative analysis and the demand-supply equilibrium the rent is now 9900/=

that is

1st person is ready for 8000
2nd person is ready to pay 8240 (8000 * 1.03)
3rd person = 8487
and 8 th person is ready to pay 9900/=

if the rent is 9900 what is the property value now

it was 20 Lakhs @ 8K rent and at 9.9K rent the property value is 24.5 Lakhs which means a 1000 sq.ft property @ 2000 Rs/sft is now 2450 rs/sft.

so the land prices are appreciating in an geometric fashion , which is causing this churn of prices.

so a mere 4% (40 paise per 100 Rs/-) leads to an artificial inflation of 450 rs/- sqft which in turn increases the land price and the rent in a cyclic manner.

Google cheats its clients and pays back them the money

Google, in yet another controversy to avoid a lawsuit in which it has been blamed for cheating its clients is paying back the money charged for the advertising clients.

Click fraud concerns hound Google

San Francisco: John Thys still has not figured out how much his company has paid Google Inc for bogus sales referrals caused by 'click fraud' - a sham aimed at a perceived weakness in the Internet search leader's lucrative advertising network.
But Thys says he has uncovered enough of it to conclude that Google is trying to shortchange his company and thousands of other advertisers by offering refunds totaling $60 million to settle a lawsuit.
"It's almost like an insult that they expect us to take this token money," said Thys, director of Internet marketing for Radiators.com.
Google also expects to pay $30 million to the lawyers who settled the case on behalf of advertisers, raising the settlement's total value to as high as $90 million.
An Arkansas judge is expected to consider the proposed class-action settlement in late July.
The refunds, which will be provided in the form of advertising credits, are meant to compensate Google's customers for undetected click fraud, which contributed to the $13.3 billion in ad revenue that has poured into the company since 2001.
Google's offer works out to a $4.50 refund on every $1,000 spent in its vast advertising network over the past four-and-a-half years.
Meanwhile, independent studies assert that anywhere from $100 to $400 of every $1,000 stems from click fraud.
If those estimates prove correct, Google might be on the hook for $1 billion to $5 billion in advertising refunds

its like paying 4.50$ for every 1000$ back... Hmm...lets google the money ;)

RFID Systems

what are the components of a RFID System?

The basic RFID system consists of three main components , the coil, the transponder and the decoder (transreceiver). The coil works like an antenna to emit radio signals which inturn writes and reads the data that is available on the Tag.

The Tags can be classified into two parts active and passive tags. Active tags are those tags which have a battery source installed into the tag and are usually read/write, whereas the passive tags are read.

The tags can be further classified based on the frequencies which are LHF, HF and UHF. The LHF can have the frequency anywhere from 30Khz to 500 Khz, the HF from 850 Khz to 950 Khz and the UHF will have from 2.4 Ghz to 2.5 Ghz. More the frequencey they become microwaves.

RSI manufactures sub-15 cent gen2 RFID tags

The RFID tags cost have come down to sub 15 cents. The prevailing rates are 40 cents per tag now, but RSI promised to give us tags sub - 15 cent. The constraint being we need to order 1 million tags => this equals = .15*1000000 = 150,000 $.

The RSI also claimed that there is no reduction in standard or quality. So, this cost cutting should have been due to some of the best manufacturing practices that would need to be followed by RSI.

So let us think of a scenario where the 40 cent tags are a fixed cost and .15 comes due to the variable cost for 1Mn and <1Mn its 40 cents. So the graph would look like the one on the right side.

The cost is expected to come down to 5 cents in next 3-4 years and the way to do that is better production models.

Probably, we should start manufacturing it in India for better cost effectiveness? Mr. Murthy can u give me a chance to own this ?

Gmail and Privacy issues

I have a Google Gmail Account, and i found that there are privacy issues with Gmail.

the story goes like this...

I have an email id which is like xyz.abc@gmail.com and there is one another interesting friend of mine who has an email id xyzabc@gmail.com . All the emails (read it as confidential emails) comes to me which are written for xyzabc@gmail.com to me who is xyz.abc@gmail.com.

Its a great privacy issue for Google and i dont know how many gmail users are doing this. I now realize what the slogan on the american dollar bill is

in God we Trust and in Google we Mis-Trust :)

Google, come on correct your mistakes soon...

Estimation Techniques

There are multiple ways of estimating. But most often we use the major two ways

a) Program Complexity Model (PCM)
b) Function Point Analysis (FPA)

Let me classify the PCM
The program complexity model is again classified into three parts

A) UI Screen
B) Middle-tier-components
C) Database layers

Each of the part can have multiple complexities and its based on the project. So , we can have
i) Simple (e.g. Of a simple screen is a screen with say 3 text boxes and 3 label with 2 command buttons)
ii) Medium
iii) Complex
iv) Very Complex and etc..

Each classification of complexity based on the programming language has a definite way of attributing the number of hours. Viz,

Lets take an Eg. Of a Front end screen and Some middle tier mechanics

UI
Simple takes 2 days
Medium takes 3 days
Complex takes 5 days

Similarly we need to do this for Middle-tier components.

This time data is available from multiple sources , but we primarily use three sources

Experience
Organizational Benchmarks
Internet :)

Uff…. I think I wrote a lengthy one abt the PCM

FPA (Function Point Analysis)

Function Point Analysis has been proven as a reliable method for measuring the size of computer software. In addition to measuring output, Function Point Analysis is extremely useful in estimating projects, managing change of scope, measuring productivity

There are five Components of Function Points Data Functions
Internal Logical Files
External Interface Files
Transactional Functions
External Inputs
External Outputs
External Inquiries

Apart from these 5 components there are two more adjusting factors which you should consider

i) Functional Complexity
ii) Value Adjustment factor

Though FPA is not 100% correct in estimating, it is considered to be a better approach of estimating coz, it considers the productivity measures and the complexity measures. These adjustment factors also differ based on Language to language.

So Now knowing the background, now you can start answering the question..

For those who wanted a “r” me too. J … interviewers are never looking for the answer in the number of hours, they are looking for what to do and how you approach the problems. This is very similar to a MS interview Question..

For those who wanted a challenge … “ How many aeroplanes are flying at the Indian air space at any given point of time” ?

Worlds Safest Nuclear Reactor

Where is the Worlds Safest Nuclear reactor located ?
a) USA
b) Russia
c) China
d) India.

If your choice had been anything apart from D, you are still in the nascent stages of nuclear reactors. The latest news has been that , Mumbai based BARC scientists have created the world;s safest nuclear reactor.

What is the take away?

This nuclear reactor DOES NOT USE URANIUM, which is tough to import. This uses throium , which is avbl. in plenty in India, and uses the plutonium as a seed to ignite.

Call centre behind the bars!

Singapore Women are working on a 12 hour shifts as Telephone call center operators or as tele marketing exectuives.
